Music tools built for Ableton Live. The feel of hardware in a software format. Let's jam.

The four apps open at once, cascaded: MutationStation in front, then Chordinator, Spectrl and MidiMirror behind it

MutationStation · macOS app

MutationStation icon

MutationStation

Lock the notes that work, mutate the rest, and find acid sequences you wouldn't have written yourself.

Give it a sequence and it mutates pitch, rhythm, accent, slide, octave and length into new variations. Lock the notes that already work, Elektron-style, and re-roll the rest as often as you like. Play notes in from a keyboard or pull a clip from Live, then drag the result into your DAW.

PhraseMaker · macOS app

PhraseMaker Beta

Chords in, melody out. Give it a progression and a rhythm, and it writes the melody over them.

Bring in a chord progression from Live, a MIDI file or your keyboard, and it writes a lead melody that follows the harmony. Lock the notes you like, re-roll the rest, and shape it with octaves, accents, slides, passing notes and call-and-response placement.

Chordinator · macOS app

Chordinator icon

Chordinator

128 chords under one keybed, and whole progressions dealt from styles measured from real tracks.

A whole chord under each key, all in your scale. Generate deals four progressions at a time from 16 styles, Follow bass fits them to your bass line, and a rhythm generator based on dub house and dub techno records gives them a groove.

Spectrl · macOS app

Spectrl icon

Spectrl

Spectrum, key detection, note frequencies, tonal balance and a system-audio sampler in one window.

A live spectrum labelled with note names, key detection, loudness meters, an oscilloscope, tonal balance targets and a system audio sampler in one window. It listens to your Mac's output, so there's no plugin on the master and nothing to route.

MidiMirror · macOS app

MidiMirror icon

MidiMirror

A mirror for your MIDI controller: see what every knob is set to, and choose what each one does.

An on-screen copy of your MIDI controller that shows what every knob does in Live. Keep your controller's own script, or let MidiMirror drive it and choose what every control does, with your own modes and the Drop to snap everything back.

TouchXY · macOS app

TouchXY

Your trackpad as an XY controller for the selected device in Live.

Press ⌃⌥T and your trackpad controls two parameters of the selected device in Live. Select another device and the pad follows. Or switch to two 14-bit CCs and map them to anything.

What you get

Licence and updates

The apps are currently donation-based. If you end up enjoying the apps, a small amount is appreciated, to at least help me cover the yearly cost of the Apple Developer Program.

Every download comes with a key. Gumroad emails it to you, free downloads included. Enter it in the app to use it on up to three Macs.

Updates. Each app can check for updates itself and tell you when one is ready, or stay quiet and let you check by hand. You choose in the app.

Standalone, not a plugin

Why standalone?

Each app is its own Mac program and reaches your DAW over a virtual MIDI port, like outboard gear. You pick it as a MIDI source and play. MidiMirror talks to Live through a Remote Script instead. Because the apps run outside the DAW, a crash on one side doesn't take the other down, and your project carries fewer plugins.

One shared engine

The JamWare Hub

Every app talks to Live through one small background helper, the JamWare Hub, instead of each opening its own MIDI ports and Remote Script connection. The first app you install brings it along and keeps it up to date, and the others share it. It sits in your menu bar.

It's a small native process and uses very little CPU and memory.

About

Built to be used

These tools are for making music. Each one fills a gap in my own workflow that Live does not cover, and I built it because I needed it in my own sessions.
